Mahindra inaugurates MADE design studio in UK in August 2022

Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) has played an integral role in helping design Mahindra’s BE range of electric SUVs.

On the occasion of India’s 75th year of Independence, Mahindra unveiled five upcoming electric SUVs based on the new INGLO platform. The company also formally inaugurated the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) – its new design studio located in Oxfordshire, UK.

The new design studio was inaugurated by Anand Mahindra – chairman, Mahindra Group, along with Ranil Jayawardena, international trade minister for the UK.

  • All future Mahindra EVs will be conceptualised and designed at MADE
  • MADE shares its campus with the Mahindra Formula E team

MADE to be design base for future Mahindra EVs

MADE is part of the Mahindra Global Design Network that also includes the Mahindra India Design Studio in Mumbai. This new design studio will be the base where all future Mahindra EVs will be conceptualised and created, along with advanced vehicle design concepts.

The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art design tools that will help conceptualisation, 3D digital and physical modelling, Class-A surfacing, digital visualisation and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) design. It also incorporates a complete digital visualisation suite, clay modelling studio, VR digital modelling and digital as well as physical presentation areas.

MADE is being headed by automotive design veteran Cosimo Amadei, and the 30-member team has played an integral part in designing the three electric SUVs under the newly constituted BE sub-brand.

Speaking on the occasion, Anand Mahindra said, “Mahindra Advanced Design Europe is another vital node in our neural network of innovation. In 15 short months, their work has already laid the blueprint for an electrifying future. How we play our cards today will determine the way the world is shaped tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, International Trade Minister, UK, Jayawardena, said, “Securing investment in Britain creates jobs, boosts wages and grows our economy. It is how we help people live better lives now, and in the future. So it is fantastic to see Mahindra’s investment and expansion in Oxfordshire. We are seeking to double Anglo-Indian trade over the next decade and a free trade deal will be a significant step towards achieving that by tackling trade barriers and helping businesses in both countries seize new opportunities”.

Upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs

Mahindra’s upcoming range of electric SUVs are categorised into two distinct brands – XUV.e and BE – where the latter is a newly constituted electric-only sub-brand. The former has two models under it so far, while the latter has three. While both model lines will have completely unique design philosophies, they will all be underpinned by the same born electric INGLO platform. The XUV.e8 will be the first to make it to production in December 2024, followed by the BE models from October 2025 onwards.
