Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt shares that the arrival of his granddaughter, Raha, has transformed the family dynamics, making her the center of attention. Bhatt observes that the “gaze” has shifted from his actor daughter, Alia Bhatt, to Raha.
Alia Bhatt married actor Ranbir Kapoor in 2022 and welcomed their daughter later that year. In an interview with India Today, Mahesh Bhatt reflected on his new role as a grandfather. “When I became a grandpa, I woke up to what the entire world has been feeling since the dawn of time,” he remarked with his characteristic philosophical touch.
Bhatt elaborated on the experience, saying, “Just as you’re marveling at your child’s achievements, a new dimension is added with the birth of a grandchild. Alia, already an astounding actor, has now embraced motherhood. The arrival of Raha shifts the focus towards her. Children have the power to captivate you completely.”
The veteran filmmaker, with over 50 films across five decades, expressed his wish for Raha to watch ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’ when she grows up. “It’s one of my most heartwarming films, featuring fantastic performances by Pooja Bhatt and Aamir Khan. It resonates with the human heart. I’d also recommend ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke,’ which presents a different kind of love story,” he added.
Ranbir Kapoor recently recalled his daughter Raha’s birth and called it the “top moment” of his life. He said that he cannot describe what he felt when he held Raha for the first time, but knows he will never feel the same way about another person.
Ranbir said on Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, “You know, till the time she was born when Alia was pregnant, you’re imagining. You’re trying to know what the feeling is. She could feel it because the baby was in her. But when she was born and I was given… the first thing when the doctor gave me Raha, you can’t describe it. If I had to describe it, it’s like somebody has pulled your heart out and put it in your hands. It’s instant. It’s the love of your life. It’s too good. Never felt that, never will feel that about anything or anybody in my life.”
“I think Raha considers Alia as a part of her. She doesn’t consider Alia as another human being. They both are one. But with me, she looks for masti and fun and the laughter and flirting. We’re flirting all the time, me and my daughter,” Ranbir added.
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor tied the knot on April 14, 2022, after dating for a few years. They held an intimate ceremony at their Mumbai residence for family and close friends. On November 6 of the same year, they welcomed their daughter, Raha Kapoor. The couple posed for a family picture with Raha for the paparazzi on Christmas 2023 for the first time.
