Made-in-India Maruti Ertiga for Philippines gets more features

Suzuki has unveiled the updated Ertiga at the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS); uses last-gen K15B petrol engine.

Suzuki has showcased the newly updated Ertiga MPV in Philippines. The refreshed Ertiga is similar to the one that went on sale in India in April; and although the one sold in the Philippines is a made-in-India product, it has a few differences and feature add-ons.

  • Suzuki Ertiga for Philippines is exported from India
  • Gets powered tailgate, 360-degree camera
  • Indian model gets the 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine

Made-in-India Suzuki Ertiga: more features for export markets

The refreshed Ertiga that was showcased recently at the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) looks identical to the Indian model save for the left-hand drive set-up. However, a closer look reveals that the car showcased in Philippines gets few additional equipment.

First up, the larger 9-inch touchscreen and a 360-degree camera. And while the functions of the touchscreen are similar, the latter is a feature that is not currently available on the Ertiga in India. Another unique feature is the presence of a powered tailgate, which is missing on not just the Indian model, but on most MPVs in here currently.

While the 360-degree camera and larger touchscreen are available on other Maruti Suzuki products in India, adding these features – along with a powered tailgate – could add even more value to the hugely popular MPV.

One of the key reasons for not offering the 360-degree camera on the Ertiga in India could be the presence of the XL6, which comes with this feature and is sold as a premium alternative to the MPV via Maruti’s Nexa outlets. The XL6, however, does not come with the larger touchscreen or powered tailgate.

Made-in-India Suzuki Ertiga: K15B mild-hybrid instead of K15C

The made-in-India Ertiga for markets like the Philippines surely gets more features, but it is a step behind the one sold here when it comes to powertrain options – Suzuki still provides the slightly older K15B 1.5-litre engine on the Ertiga for export markets. This engine is coupled with the older four-speed automatic gearbox and comes with mild-hybrid tech, which is still new for many countries.

In India, the Ertiga comes with the newer Dualjet technology-equipped 1.5-litre K15C powerplant mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic and mild-hybrid tech, which Maruti calls “Smart Hybrid”.

Maruti Ertiga: rivals in India

The Ertiga is a high-demand model for Maruti in India and sees stiff competition from the likes of the Kia Carens, and both models have long waiting periods in most cities.
