Not much is known about the personal life of Surya Prakash. On the career front, he made his debut in the film industry with the 1996 movie Manikkam. This film starred Raj Kiran, Vanitha Vijayakumar and others in key roles. Maayi remains one of the few hit films in the directorial trajectory of Surya Prakash. Maayi was such a stellar success that it was remade in Telugu and Kannada (Narasimha).
He, however, failed to replicate the same level of success with actor Sarath Kumar in the film Diwan. He later directed the film Athibar as well but it also failed commercially at the box office. Social media users opined that the lead actor of the film, Jeevan failed to act. Adding on to the troubles of the film, the plot and the storyline of Athibar failed to entertain the viewers.
Jeevan, however, had appreciated the storyline of this film. In an earlier interview with the City Express, he expressed his opinion. When asked what made him pick this story to make his comeback? He said, “The script of this film is what got me hooked on this project. The story of this film is of the kind that I haven’t done in my career before and that is why I am kicked about this project.”
Surya Prakash had also tried to make a romantic film set against a rural backdrop, i.e.- Varusanaadu. This film’s release date, however, was delayed and has been unreleased to date. The late director was confident that this film would be a success upon its release.
