Lowers Cholesterol

Flaxseeds are known to lower cholesterol levels. As per a 2018 study submitted to the National Library of Medicine, it was found that people who ate four tablespoons of flaxseeds every day saw a decrease in their bad cholesterol levels (LDL) levels by 15 per cent after a month.

A tablespoon of flaxseeds contains 5-8 per cent of fibre which is the daily recommended intake. It has two types of fibre- soluble and insoluble- which support your gut health and improve bowel regularity. The fibre content helps in regulating the blood sugar levels in the body and lowers cholesterol. The insoluble fibre adds bulk to the stool and prevents constipation.

At the same time, it may also help in preventing the risk of skin cancer, lung cancer and colon cancer. It has been found that flaxseeds contain 75-800 times lignan, a plant compound known for its cancer-fighting properties.

Flaxseed and its oil are extremely healthy and easy to use. It can be added to any recipe. You can add the seeds or powder to your milkshakes and smoothies. Drizzle the flax seed oil on your fresh salads instead of salad dressing. Increase the nutrition quotient by sprinkling it over your cereals as well.
