Having football legend Lionel Messi is set to make any video go viral. On Sunday, actor Will Smith shared a clip that featured Messi in a blink and miss moment. The video showed Martin Lawrence and Smith trying to figure out how to kick a football, when suddenly Messi enters the frame, prompting surprised gasps from the duo. Messi then expertly kicks the ball to the camera and the clip ends. This video was made as a promotion for Smith and Lawrence’s upcoming film Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
The clip has already gathered over 36 lakh views in less than a day. Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “Bruh what a flex on marketing.” Another mentioned, “Now you convinced me… I’m going to see the movie.” Someone else observed, “Wow!!!!!!!!! I have not seen a better launch to a movie than this campaign. So amazing to witness.”
Bad Boys: Ride or Die is an upcoming American buddy cop action comedy film directed by Belgian director duo Adil & Bilall. It is set for release on June 7, 2024. The film is the sequel to the 2020 film Bad Boys for Life. It is also the fourth film of the Bad Boys franchise and is hence being dubbed as The Boys 4. The first Bad Boys film was released in 1995, the second one in 2003, and the third one in 2020.
The comedy action film will have actors Vanessa Hudgens, Paula Nunez, and Alexander Ludwig reprising their roles. Additionally, Jacob Scipio, who was introduced as Mike’s (Will Smith) criminal son, Armando, in Bad Boys For Life is also expected to have a major role.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Smith said with the fourth installment of the franchise, the makers are counting on the nostalgia value of the movie but also want to add more to its storyline. He said, “We want it to feel nostalgic, but we also want the characters to be experiencing things that are age-appropriate and experience-appropriate. It’s a challenge to keep it fun and keep it exciting and make sure that the popcorn part is enjoyable, but also letting it be gourmet popcorn. It is popcorn, but it’s definitely got some special sauce on it.”
The film began shooting in April 2023, but was delayed because of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes. The first trailer of the film was released on March 26, 2024.
