Light operator, Mohan Kumar was a 24-year-old who fell from a height of 30 feet and died.
In a recent case of a shocking incident, a young light operator fell to his death on the film set and renowned Kannada film director Yogaraj Bhat and three other people have been booked by the police. The complaint was filed by the deceased’s brother and a case of death due to negligence has been registered against the director, producer, manager and assistant manager of the production.
Light operator, Mohan Kumar was just 24 years old. He fell from a height of 30 feet while he was dismantling a 30-foot-tall lighting rostrum after the end of the day’s shooting for the film, Manada Kadalu which is currently under production. The incident took place at the VRL Godown in the Madanayakanahalli region of the Bengaluru rural district. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the blow to his head was fatal and he breathed his last on Tuesday. The police have booked the director Yogaraj Bhat and three others following the death of the operator on Tuesday.
As per reports, the complaint has been filed by Mohan Kumar’s brother Shivrajau M over death due to negligence. He has also registered the case against the director, producer, manager, and assistant manager of the production. As per reports in Indian Express, the complainant claimed that his brothers, Mohan Kumar (deceased) and Hemanth Kumar, worked as light technicians in the Kannada film industry.
Shivaraju claimed that no safety measures were provided to light technicians and this resulted in the death of his young brother. He has also filed a case against the manager of the production, Suresh Kumar and assistant manager, Manohar. He claimed that the technicians used to work from 9 am to 6 pm and if necessary up to 9 pm. On September 3, they were busy with the lighting work on the sets of the film and at around 5:10 pm, his brother was dismantling the rostrum. Shivaraju and another person were holding the rostrum while Mohan Kumar was working on the top. However, he was working without any safety equipment and the rostrum fell suddenly and along with it, Mohan fell to the ground which resulted in a head injury. After being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead at 6:30 pm.
Meanwhile, reportedly the film crew has accused Mohan Kumar of working without the safety equipment which ultimately led to his death. Now, a case has been registered against the filmmakers under Section 106 (causing death due to negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
