Lexus GX SUV (Prado based), new TX SUV teased ahead of global debut

While the new TX will be a monocoque SUV, the second-gen GX will be a ladder-frame rugged SUV similar to its predecessor.

Toyota‘s luxury arm Lexus is readying not one but two all-new SUVs that will debut in the coming weeks. Starting the proceedings will be the second-gen GX SUV which will continue to be a ladder-frame based rugged luxury off-roader. The new Lexus GX will see light of day in June 2023. The second debut from Lexus will be the all new three-row SUV called the TX that will be unveiled in the coming months.

  1. Lexus TX SUV will be based on Toyota Grand High Lander
  2. Second-gen Lexus GX will share underpinnings with the Land Cruiser Prado
  3. Lexus recently launched the latest-gen RX SUV in India

New Lexus GX: future Land Cruiser Prado twin

The current-gen Lexus GX SUV has been on sale abroad for quite long now, and its replacement will finally be shown next month. While the SUV will have a traditional body on frame setup, it will be loaded with latest off-road tech, some from the latest LX full-size SUV along with top-notch luxury features as well. The outgoing GX has been a left-hand drive only SUV and is sold primarily in the North American and Middle Eastern markets, some of which do not get the Land Cruiser Prado on which the GX is based.

This, however, will change as the next-gen GX will be built in right-hand drive configuration as well, and the model has already been confirmed for launch in markets like Australia and Japan, among others. Additionally, the next-gen Land Cruiser Prado, which is yet to be revealed, will likely share the underpinnings and powertrain options with the upcoming GX, including some body panels.

Lexus TX SUV: Three-row rival to the Mercedes-Benz GLE

The all-new Lexus TX will be a fresh addition to Lexus’ vast global line-up of SUVs. This new SUV will be a monocoque vehicle and will share its underpinnings, body panels and even some interior elements with the current-gen Toyota Grand Highlander SUV. The only teaser Lexus has released for the TX shows the SUV’s rear quarter glass area that shows a blacked out D-pillar and a decent-sized window.

The Lexus TX  will be positioned above the RX SUV (on sale in India currently) and will be a three-row rival to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Range Rover Sport among other SUVs in this segment. Although are no powertrain details have been revealed so far, reports say that the TX will share its engine line-up with the Grand Highlander that comes with three powertrain options: a 265hp, 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, a 245hp 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol-hybrid with FWD or AWD, and a top-spec 362hp 2.4-litre four cylinder turbo-petrol with AWD that is also seen on the Lexus RX.

Lexus SUV line-up in India

While the new TX may not come to India anytime soon, the new GX could make it to our shores in future. Lexus currently sells the NX, the RX and the LX line-up of SUVs in the Indian market.
