Lamborghini Aventador replacement expected design, powertrains, India launch timeline

Lamborghini’s new flagship supercar will be powered by a hybrid-assisted V12 engine.

Lamborghini is set to replace its flagship supercar, the Aventador. The next-gen supercar, which will get a V12 hybrid powertrain, is expected to make its global debut in the coming weeks. Ahead of its launch, images of the Aventador successor have surfaced online revealing the design.

  2. Will have more than 780hp
  3. Could launch in India later this year

Lamborghini Aventador successor: expected design

The Lamborghini Aventador successor, which is as of yet unnamed, will get a sharp-looking front end, akin to the one it replaces. It has Lamborghini Sian FKP 37-inspired elements such as the tri-arrow LED daytime running lamps below the triangular headlamps.

In profile, the Aventador successor’s alloy wheels have a design – 5-spoke alloys with Y-shaped ends – similar to the ones used on the Aventador when it debuted in 2011. Behind the door, it houses huge air intakes that help the mid-mounted V12 engine breathe.

At the rear, it gets dual, top-mounted exhaust pipes flanked by tri-arrow tail-lights. Unlike the Aventador, which had a three-pane rear window over the engine, the upcoming supercar will get a single-pane window with air vents on each side.

Lamborghini Aventador successor: expected powertrains

The Aventador successor will draw a majority of its power from a large-capacity V12 engine that will be assisted by hybrid power. Like the Sian FKP 37 and the new Countach LPI 800-4, the upcoming supercar will also feature a supercapacitor energy storage device. The supercapacitor, which in current form weighs 34kg, charges three times faster than a conventional lithium-ion battery of similar size.

Lamborghini is also thought to be looking to use carbon-fibre bodywork to store electrical energy, although no details have been released. With this hybrid assist, the new Lamborghini supercar is expected to produce over 780hp, which is more than the Lamborghini Aventador Ultimae. Lamborghini’s chief technical officer Rouven Mohr told our sister publication Autocar UK that Aventador’s replacement will be “completely new from the ground-up, meaning engine, gearbox, drivetrain or whatever, everything is new.”

Mohr also suggested that a slightly more conventional hybrid system could be on the cards for future models. He added, “In the future, we could also think to make a combination between classic cell chemistry and a separate capacitor, but on this we still have to do some work. It’s not ready now.”

Lamborghini Aventador successor: will it come to India?

Lamborghini offers all of its production models on sale in India – Urus, Huracan and Aventador. While the global debut of the upcoming supercar is around the corner, expect it to launch in India in the second half of this year.
