The EV6 will be Kia’s first all-electric model in India.
The Kia EV6 is the Korean carmaker’s first all-electric offering, and it has received praise abroad in the markets it is offered in. We had previously reported that Kia will bring the EV6 to India this year– its first EV offering in the country. Our sources now tell us that the EV6 will be launched here by June 2022.
- The Kia EV6 will be a CBU (full import)
- It will get plenty of tech and safety features
- It comes with a 58kWh and 77.4kWh battery pack
Kia EV6: what do we know?
Given that Kia is set to bring the EV6 as a CBU (full import), no changes are expected to be made to its design, features, e-GMP platform or electric powertrain. The EV6 makes use of Kia’s latest ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy that gives the electric crossover a sleek and sporty overall look.
On the inside, the Kia EV6 will feature a dual-screen layout – one for the digital dials and another for the infotainment system. The EV6 offers connected car tech, a new two-spoke steering wheel design, an augmented reality heads-up display, and a number of ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) safety features.
While we don’t yet know the exact powertrain set-up Kia plans to offer in India, we do know the configurations offered globally. These include a 58kWh battery pack version that is offered in two configurations – rear-wheel drive (RWD) layout with a 170hp single-motor or in an all-wheel drive (AWD) layout with a dual-motor set-up that makes 235hp. There is also a larger 77.4kWh battery pack that can be had with a 229hp single-motor in RWD guise, 325hp dual-motor in AWD guise or in the range topping, performance-focused GT guise that has a dual-motor AWD layout that puts out 585hp and 740Nm.
Kia India’s future EV plans
The EV6 is only the start of Kia and Hyundai’s EV plans for India that include bringing six all-electric models by 2024. Besides the EV6, Kia will bring the new e-Niro and a mass market electric SUV, while Hyundai will bring the Ioniq 5, Kona Electric facelift and a mass market EV SUV of its own.
