Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge, Siemens Healthineers discuss CoE for life sciences


Karnataka information technology and biotechnology (IT/BT) and rural development & panchayat raj minister Priyank Kharge on Sunday said he had detailed discussions with Siemens Healthineers on collaborating with the 125-year-old medtech company to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in life sciences and medical devices.


“The CoE will be anchoring skills, nurturing leadership & be an incubator for startups in the health & medtech sector,” the minister posted on social media platform X.

Healthtech market, Kharge said, was estimated to reach $25 billion by 2025 and double by 2033, while the revenues in the medical devices market in India were projected to reach $6 billion in 2023 with an annual growth rate of 8.5%.

“Karnataka will not be missing this bus for sure,” the minister said, while announcing that his Cabinet colleague and Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao would soon unveil a roadmap for the CoE in association with the IT/BT department.
