Koffee With Karan Season 8: Karan Johar revealed that Kajol wouldn’t speak to her cousin Rani Mukerji on the sets of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Koffee With Karan Season 8: Kajol maintained “a silent distance” from her cousin Rani Mukerji during the filming of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Johar revealed on the latest episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8. Karan revealed that despite being cousins, Kajol and Rani were not so close at the beginning of their film careers but things have changed now.

“At that time, you didn’t have a close friendship or a relationship at all, right? Karan asked Kajol and Rani. “Though you were family, there was no rishta (relationship). You (Kajol) had also kept a silent distance from her. I used to wonder, ‘What kind of family is this?’”

When asked if there was a distance just organically or Kajol wasn’t close to Rani’s family, she said, “Nothing like that. I think it was just an organic distance, honestly. And where work is concerned, both of us liked where we were.”

Rani echoed a similar sentiment and said, “I have know her as a kid. She is always Kajol didi for me. Yeah, it was a bit strange but I guess when you grow up and grow apart, you don’t really know the reason why because you don’t meet that often. Kajol didi used to stay in town and we were in Juhu. Tanisha and I were much closer and we are still closer, but Kajol did was always closer to the boys of the family.”

When asked how their relationship got better over the years, Rani revealed, “I think it was more after our dads passed away. It’s more from that time. I think that’s what happens to families. As a family, when you lose your loved ones… And I was very close to Kajol’s dad (Shomu Mukherjee). When you go through tough times, that’s when everybody comes closer.”
