The upcoming film Kadak Singh, featuring Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjana Sanghi, has been generating excitement well before its official release. Positioned as a mystery film straddling the realms of emotional drama and whodunnit, Kadak Singh received an enthusiastic reception when the makers unveiled its trailer at the recently concluded International Film Festival of India in Goa.

Speaking of how director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury pulled a casting coup, he said, “Everything unfolded organically. When we secured Pankaj’s date, I was elated. Upon meeting him, I was certain he was the perfect actor for this role. In 2017, I met Parvathy Thiruvothu and was impressed by her work in ‘Take Off’ and other Malayalam films. For Kadak Singh, I proposed she play Miss Kannan, and Viraf agreed. She’s a stunning actor and working with her had always been a desire of mine.”

He added that he has known Jaya Ahsan from Bangladesh for a long time and with four consecutive National Awards and three consecutive Best Actor awards at Filmfare for Bengali films, working with her was a longstanding aspiration. “Fortunately, she was keen on working in Kadak Singh and delivered an incredible performance,” he said.

Speaking of casting Sanjana Sanghi, he said, “Then came Sanjana. While finalizing details in the sound mixing room, we had a brief Zoom chat. The connection felt symbiotic, and I knew she was the perfect choice for Sakshi. It’s an organic process – envisioning, writing, and then the universe responding by providing the best actors available. Paresh joined next, followed by Varun Buddhadev and Dilip Shankar. Viraf recommended Dilip Shankar from Delhi and he was fantastic. Then there’s Rajan Modi, one of my neighbours, who portrayed Subhash. Gradually, everything fell into place, and the ensemble formed seamlessly. We are very pleased with the team we’ve assembled for this film.”

The film will release on Zee5 on December 8.
