The audience at the Vijaya Theatre A/C in Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, praised the film.
Tamil film Iraivan, written and directed by I Ahmed, was released on the big screens on September 28. It has received mixed to negative reviews from critics and audiences. The audience at the Vijaya Theatre A/C in Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, however, has a different opinion about the film. They shared their opinions with Local 18 and said that Iraivan is a good psycho-thriller. They especially loved actor Jayam Ravi’s acting prowess, who essayed the role of the protagonist Arjun in this film. The viewers also loved the music scored by the popular composer, Yuvan Shankar Raja. According to the audience, these two aspects are the biggest plus points for Iraivan, produced by Passion Studios. This film was released at the cinema halls in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Rahul Bose, Nayanthara, Narain, Lachu, and Ashish Vidyarthi have also acted in this film.
Iraivan revolves around a series of gruesome incidents in Chennai, where bare and mutilated female bodies have been found with smiley faces carved onto them. ACP Arjun (Jayam Ravi) and ACP Andrew (Narain), try to track down the perpetrator, who is responsible for these heinous acts. Andrew loses his life, but they do succeed in capturing the killer, Brahma (Rahul Bose). Soon, Brahma escapes custody, and Arjun comes across a shocking revelation. This revelation forms the core theme of the film.
Iraivan has also received backlash for showing violent visuals of crime against women. I Ahmed expressed his opinion regarding this in an exclusive interview with India Today. He was asked whether the visuals could trigger a particular section of the audience. Ahmed said that he is a professional filmmaker. He also said that if he is making a comedy film, then he needs the audience to laugh. According to him, emotion needs to come through, otherwise, there is no point in attempting it. “Iraivan’ belongs to a dark genre and it has a lot of brutality and things which are real. You can’t get away with showing a lethal psychopathic villain and expecting him to utter dialogue to scare you. His intention is to kill and he gets pleasure out of it. If I didn’t show it, I couldn’t have attempted this genre. So, I did not compromise on that,” explained I Ahmed.
