Atlee revealed he could submit Shah Rukh Khan-headlined Jawan for Oscars.
Director Atlee has confirmed that he is open to the idea of taking Jawan to the Oscars. In a new interview, Atlee said that he will talk to Shah Rukh Khan about submitted Jawan for Oscars nominations. The SRK-headlined film has done phenomenal business at the box office. Jawan has earned Rs 858 crores worldwide while it has earned Rs 430 crores in India. While Atlee and Shah Rukh have won over the box office, it is now evident that Atlee wants to also rule the awards season.
In an interaction with ETimes, Atlee was asked about Jawan’s possible Oscar run. Atlee said, “Of course, even Jawan should go, if everything falls in place. I think every effort, everybody, every director, every technician who is working in cinema, their eyes are on the Golden Globes, Oscars, National Awards, every award. So, definitely, yeah, I would love to take Jawan to the Oscars. Let’s see. I think Khan sir will watch and read this interview. I will also ask him over a call ‘Sir, should we take this film to the Oscars?”
Atlee eyeing the Oscars for Jawan comes just weeks after director Anil Sharma said he wants to submit Gadar 2 for Oscar consideration. Filmmakers’ attention to the Oscars has rose after SS Rajamouli took his film, RRR, to the Academy Awards. The film, which starred Ram Charan and Jr NTR, won the Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu. The film also won awards at Golden Globe Awards and Critics Choice Awards.
It is to see if Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee go ahead with the plans of taking Jawan to Oscars.
Meanwhile, Atlee confirmed that Jawan’s budget was over Rs 300 crores. “I narrated the film on a Zoom call during Covid times. I know theatrical footfall was going down and people were not ready to greenlight even a 30-40 crore film. I know because I am also a producer. But sir [Shah Rukh Khan] greenlighted a Rs 300 cr film when everyone was skeptical. But we didn’t stop at Rs 300 cr. We went more. We made a blockbuster in three days and now, we are flying,” he said at the success meet of Jawan.
