Marimuthu worked in the Tamil film industry and had an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades.
Actor-turned-director Marimuthu, who was recently seen in the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer, passed away on September 8. The 57-year-old reportedly had a heart attack at 8:30 a.m. As per reports, he was dubbing for the Sun TV soap, Ethirneechal, in which he essayed the role of Aadhimuthu Gunasegaran. Marimuthu was known for his humour and natural acting. He worked in the Tamil film industry and had an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades. Apart from this, he has also worked in Malayalam and Hindi films. Marimuthu started his acting career as a supporting actor in Ajith’s 1999 film Vaali. He then went on to star in many Tamil films in supporting roles, including Yuddham Sei (2011), Kodi (2016), Bairavaa (2017), Kadaikutty Singam (2018), Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pendulum (2021), and the Hindi film Atrangi Re (2021). 1. Kodai: It is a Tamil-language romantic comedy-drama film, directed by Raajaselvam and starring Karthick Singa and Anaya Lakshmi in the lead roles. The film’s music was composed by Subash Kavi, while the cinematography was handled by Arjunan Karthick, and the editing was done by G Sasikumar.
2. Kannai Nambathey: Mu wrote and directed this crime thriller movie. Prasanna, Srikanth, Aathmika, and Udhayanidhi Stalin play the main characters, while Vasundhara Kashyap, Sathish and Bhumika play supporting roles. San Lokesh edited the film, Siddhu Kumar was in charge of the camera, and Jalandhar Vasan provided the soundtrack. The film received mixed reviews from critics.
3. Theera Kaadhal: Theera Kaadhal is a Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by Rohin Venkatesan. Jai, Aishwarya Rajesh and Sshivada play the main characters in the film. The film was released on May 26 this year. It received positive reviews from critics and became a decent hit at the box office.
4. Jailer: Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer was directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures. It also stars Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Tamannaah, Sunil, Mirnaa Menon, and Yogi Babu in supporting roles. According to reports, the movie grossed Rs 600–635 crore worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, as well as the third highest-grossing Tamil film.
5. Indian 2: S Shankar wrote and directed this vigilante action film. It is the sequel to the 1996 film Indian. The upcoming film stars Kamal Haasan, who is reprising his role as Senapathy, an old freedom fighter turned vigilante who fights against corruption and crimes. The movie also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Kalidas Jayaram, Gulshan Grover, Nedumudi Venu, Vivek, Samuthirakani and Bobby Simha. It has been backed by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies. Indian 2 will be Marimuthu’s last release.
