‘Is TikTok destroying civilization?’ Elon Musk tweets, even as he wishes Twitter to be like it

New Delhi: Days after reports revealed that Tesla CEO Elon Musk told Twitter staff at a meeting on Thursday he wanted the microblogging site to be more like TikTok and WeChat, the tech mogul shared a cryptic tweet early Saturday, asking if TikTok is “destroying civilization.”

“Is TikTok destroying civilization?” he questioned. “Or perhaps social media in general,” he wrote in a subsequent tweet.
Musk informed the Twitter staff during his first direct call about his goals for the company once he assumes ownership, including making it more like TikTok and WeChat and permitting “outrageous remarks”.

However, Tesla’s CEO emphasised that such remarks should not be amplified.

If Twitter is to meet the goal of one billion users, it needs to become more like WeChat and TikTok, he told the employees.

“There’s no WeChat equivalent outside of China. You basically live on WeChat in China. If we can recreate that with Twitter, we’ll be a great success,” he suggested during the virtual meeting.

According to The Verge, Musk responded to an employee’s question by saying that people should be permitted to “say pretty outrageous things within the law” but that such speech must not always be amplified.
