Apple is likely to roll out the long-awaited iOS 17.1 update today, with a host of new features and bug fixes to come. While the iPhone maker has not officially announced the rollout date for iOS 17.1, the date was curiously revealed by French regulator Agence Nationale Des Fréquences (ANFR) in a blog post last week.
France has banned the sale of the iPhone 12, after the premium smartphone failed to pass the European country’s radiation exposure test limits. The French regulator had said that the ban on selling the iPhone 12 would remain in place until the new iOS 17 update is rolled out to the general public.
New features in iOS 17.1:
According to a MacRumors report, the iOS 17.1 update will come with many new features, including improvements to the Music app, AirDrop and new StandBy features.
1) Music app:
Users will now be able to add a star icon to any song, album, playlist or artist, and the new selection will be saved to the library and help improve Apple’s recommendations.
2) New AirDrop features:
AirDrop will come with a new “Out of Range” option that allows users to send and receive files even if the two devices are not in close proximity. When the distance between the two devices increases, the file transfer will be completed via Wi-Fi or cellular data.
3) Connected cards:
Apple is introducing a new feature for iPhone users in the UK that will allow them to add their debit and credit cards from selected banks to the Wallet app. Users will be able to view the latest transactions and balances for these cards.
4) Changes to StandBy mode:
Apple will now allow users to take advantage of the new changes to StandBy Mode that were announced during the launch of iOS 17. Users will be able to turn their iPhone into a smart display while charging the phone in landscape mode, reported 9to5Mac.
However, the update will only be available to smartphones with an always-on display which includes – iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
