Intel joins hands with Indian manufacturers to boost laptop production in Make-in-India initiative

Intel has partnered with Bhagwati Products, Dixon Technologies India, Kaynes Technology India, Optiemus Electronics, Panache Digilife, Smile Electronics, Syrma SGS Technology, and VVDN Technologies Private to accelerate laptop manufacturing in India, the company said in a release.

As a part of its collaboration with these electronic manufacturing services (EMS) and original design manufacturers (ODM), Intel will share its expertise with these eight companies to facilitate the production of entry-level laptops in India.

The collaboration will also help some companies such as Panace Digilife, Kaynes Technology India, and Syrma SGS Technology’s foray into laptop manufacturing. Intel will also help all eight companies in setting up quality control processes for components and benchmark the finished products.

“Intel also provided support to ODMs spanning both semi-knocked down (SKD) and completely knocked down (CKD) processes,” the company said.

Intel’s entry into the Indian electronics manufacturing process is the second major boost for the government’s make-in-India plans in less than a month. In October, global software conglomerate Google announced its plan to start the manufacturing of its latest flagship Pixel 8 phones in India.

Sources had then told ET that Google was in advanced talks with Indian electronics manufacturer Dixon Technologies as well as with Bharat FIH, an arm of Taiwan’s Foxconn, to set up production of its Pixel phones in India.

Earlier this year, Apple had also scaled up its India production to the extent that it made available some models of its latest iPhone 15 series that were made locally, simultaneously with China-made ones.
