Indian Air Force adds Tata Nexon EVs to its fleet

These electric vehicles will be used at IAF’s headquarters in New Delhi to analyse their performance.

Indian Air Force (IAF) has added 12 Tata Nexon EVs to its fleet, with Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari flagging off the first batch of the new EVs at Vayu Bhawan, IAF’s headquarters in New Delhi. These Nexon EVs will be used in the capital city to analyse their performance before the induction of more electric vehicles.

These EVs have been added as part of IAF’s commitment towards reducing its carbon emissions, as per the government’s initiative towards green mobility. The Air Force is planning to gradually increase the usage of electric vehicles and reduce the number of internal combustion engine vehicles in its fleet in a phased manner.

The IAF is also planning to augment the usage of EVs in its ecosystem, including the installation of charging infrastructure at various Air Force bases.

The Indian Air Force will also procure electric buses and cars. We had earlier reported that the Indian Army will incorporate electric vehicles into its fleet for select units and formations. This, again, is in accordance with the government’s overall policy of cutting down carbon emissions.

The Indian Army’s procurement, which will happen in a phased manner, will replace 25 percent light vehicles, 38 percent buses and 48 percent motorcycles with EVs in select units.
