India-Australia World Cup Final: sales of chips, jerseys, puja flowers zoom on Blinkit, Zepto

Quick commerce companies such as Blinkit and Zepto are trying to cash in on the India-Australia World Cup final being played in Ahmedabad today. Zepto’s cofounder and CEO Aadit Palicha said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that sales of puja flowers were skyrocketing right before the match began at 2 pm. He also shared a graph of how the numbers stacked up when compared to a regular Sunday.

“India’s religious side is starting to show! Sales of puja flowers are through the roof today compared to a regular Sunday We thought it was because of Chhath Puja, but there’s been a major spike since the match started,” he said.

Meanwhile, Blinkit’s cofounder and CEO, Albinder Dhindsa said sales of chips were on track to hit an all-time high on the quick commerce platform.

“Orders with chips always peak on days when India is playing. Currently on track to hit a new all time high of chips sales on @letsblinkit today,” Dhindsa said on Twitter.

The Blinkit CEO also said the rate of orders dropped during an over but picked up once it ended and ads were being aired.

“Note the sharp order rate drop at the time of the toss & the first ball of the match. Would be interesting to see how this chart aligns with Hotstar app opens,” he said.
Indian cricket team jerseys, too, were being ordered thick and fast as Zepto and Blinkit are promising deliveries in record time.

One user said on X that Zepto delivered the jersey in seven minutes for Rs 999.
