Hyundai i20 price, facelift teased, new design, more features, engine and specs

The most important updates could be to the equipment list; will remain mechanically unchanged.

Hyundai globally debuted the i20 facelift earlier in May this year, and just four months since then, Hyundai India has put out a teaser hinting at the imminent launch of the updated hatchback. The current-gen i20 had launched in November 2020, which means the mid-life cycle update will arrive in less than three years. The updates, however, are quite minimal, and mostly cosmetic in nature.

  1. i20 facelift gets revised front and rear end
  2. Expected to get more features on the inside
  3. Will remain mechanically unchanged

Hyundai i20 facelift: exterior updates

As with most facelifts, the updates to the front and rear of the i20 are just to the soft plastic parts. There are slight tweaks to the grille, and the front bumper now gets two large arrow-shaped inlets on either side. The chin now looks wider, thanks to a prominent, contrast black finish on the lower part. The teaser also reveals the new headlamps, which although similar in shape to the current one, will likely be full-LED units.

Additionally, the Hyundai logo will be repositioned from the grille to the base of the bonnet, and gets a new 2D design. Changes to the rear include a more prominent faux rear diffuser, repositioned reflectors, and a more prominent dual-tone finish for the rear bumper. The i20 could also get a new set of alloy wheels, along with a few new exterior paint shades.

Hyundai i20 facelift: interior updates

There are, however, no major changes to the interior design, although there could be some important feature upgrades. The dual-dashcam that’s currently seen on quite a few Hyundai models is expected to be on offer, as is an updated digital instrument cluster. The i20 also gets ADAS features in Europe, so that too could be on the cards for India. It will, then, become the only hatchback in the country to be equipped with ADAS.

Hyundai i20 facelift: powertrain

The i20 facelift is expected to remain mechanically unchanged from the current model. That means it will continue with the 83hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as well as the 120hp, 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Gearbox options include a manual and CVT for the former, and an iMT and DCT gearboxes for the latter.

The sportier i20 N Line will also be updated on similar lines in due course. Upon launch, it will continue its rivalry with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz, Expect more updates on its launch and booking details in the coming days.
