The absence of major artists such as BTS’s Jungkook, NewJeans, IVE, and Stray Kids from the initial lineup of MAMA awards has raised concern among K Pop fans.
The much-anticipated 2023 MAMA Awards, which are just around the corner, have been a topic of great excitement among fans eagerly awaiting updates. In response to enquiries regarding the absence of several prominent artists from the lineup for this year’s 2023 MAMA Awards, Mnet, a South Korean pay television music channel has offered some insight. On November 8, the 2023 MAMA Awards hosted a Media Day event, which saw the presence of Jeon So Mi as the host, Park Chan Wook from Mnet’s business department, and Lee Sun Hyung, a specialist from CJ ENM’s Convention Business Strategy and Planning Team.
For those unfamiliar, the absence of major artists such as BTS’s Jungkook, NewJeans, IVE, and Stray Kids from the initial lineup of the awards had raised concern among K Pop fans worldwide.
According to Soompi, Park Chan Wook – when addressing the criteria for selecting attendees for this year’s event – said, “As it is an awards show, we prioritise the casting of artists who made the most noticeable impact throughout the year.”
When asked about the absence of major artists such as Jungkook from BTS, NewJeans, IVE, and Stray Kids in the initial lineup announcement, Park Chan Wook replied, “We are discussing the possibility of additional artists. We will officially share an additional announcement if that aspect is decided. It is difficult to say at the moment.”
The theme chosen for this year’s ceremony is ‘ONE I BORN,’ a concept signifying the merging of the individual ‘I’ with MAMA, resulting in a harmonious ‘ONE’ born from positive energy. This concept underscores the union of individual potential and collective positivity.
The MAMA Awards are renowned for their exceptional production quality and iconic performances, which elevate the K-pop scene each year to a remarkable climax. With a lineup featuring top-tier performing artists and hosts, this year’s ceremony is expected to be brimming with entertainment and positive vibes. The event will be accessible for live streaming on various global platforms, including CJ ENM’s music channel Mnet, as well as its official YouTube channels, namely Mnet K-POP, Mnet TV, M2, and KCON official.
The 2023 MAMA Awards will be hosted by singer and rapper Jeon Somi, alongside actor Park Bo-Gum. This highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place at the prestigious Tokyo Dome on November 28 and 29. The ceremonies will be broadcast live at 6 p.m. KST, ensuring that fans and enthusiasts from around the world can be part of this grand celebration of K-pop excellence.
