After 66 concerts in 22 cities, the Korean girl group BLACKPINK concluded their Born Pink tour on September 17, 2023, in Seoul, South Korea. Now fans can experience the concert with the unique VR experience. On December 26, Blinks (as BLACKPINK fans are called) can watch the “BLACKPINK: A VR Encore” concert on Meta Horizon Worlds, a virtual reality platform. The 70-minute concert will give one the front-row experience of the Born Pink concert finale that took place in Seoul’s iconic Gocheok Sky Dome venue. This online concert was “custom-captured and produced for VR” by Emmy Award-winning production company The Diamond Bros.

The first virtual concert by a K-pop act will premiere on Tuesday, December 26, at 5 p.m. PT (December 27, 10:00 a.m. Korean Standard Time, 6:30 a.m. Indian Standard Time) in Meta Horizon Worlds. The RSVP for the event is open. Attendees will also have the option of replays available for a month on Meta Horizon Worlds. As per Meta’s website, Meta Horizon Worlds is available to people aged 13+ in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, and Iceland and to people ages 18+ in France and Spain on Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro. Meta Quest is a set of virtual reality (VR) headsets used to access Meta Horizon Worlds. BLACKPINK released the trailer of their VR concert back on November 16, two months after the Born Pink finale in Seoul concluded.

In a media statement about their first VR show, BLACKPINK said, “We’re thrilled to embrace the dynamic world of VR because it allows us to reach an even wider global audience and share our music in an entirely new, immersive way. This VR concert is not just a show, it’s an extension of the tour we poured our hearts into. We can’t wait for you to see the magic we’ve created with The Diamond Bros and Meta, thanks to our incredible BLINKs for the infinite support they have given us.”

Vishal Shah, VP of Metaverse at Meta, highlighted how a VR concert changes a typical concert viewing experience and said, “Artists like BLACKPINK are transforming how music fans experience performances and connect with their favourite artists. We’re excited to feature this creative, social VR experience from The Diamond Bros in Horizon Worlds and can’t wait for Meta Quest owners to take a front-row seat for this amazing show.”
