Netflix clarified that while the release date of Goodbye Earth was postponed, whether or not the series will have an April 2024 premiere was still in discussions.
South Korean actor Yoo Ah-in has been making the headlines lately. The 37-year-old is embroiled in a drug case. According to multiple reports, Yoo Ah-in tested positive for marijuana, propofol, cocaine, and ketamine. In fact, due to this turbulence in his personal life, his film career has also been impacted. On December 11, a media outlet reported that the release date of the actor’s upcoming drama series Goodbye Earth has been postponed to April 2024. Also, the report added that most of the scenes featuring Yoo Ah-in would be removed from the series. Now Netflix, the official streaming partner of Goodbye Earth has announced a new development to the ongoing matter.
In response to the report, Netflix clarified that while the release date of Goodbye Earth was postponed, whether or not the series will have an April 2024 premiere was still in discussions. “The release schedule for Goodbye Earth has not been determined. It is temporarily postponed. We will provide further information on the specific release schedule as soon as it is confirmed. We appreciate the interest you have shown in Goodbye Earth,” stated Netflix.
Yoo Ah-in rose to stardom with hard-hitting films like Burning, Chicago Typewriter, and Hellbound. The actor’s acting prowess paved the way for his recognition among the masses. But in February this year, Yoo Ah-in came under the radar for using illegal drugs which are banned in South Korea. This resulted in him stepping down from multiple projects, sources confirmed.
Earlier, Yoo Ah-in’s Goodbye Earth co-star Kim Young-woong expressed his disappointment in the much-awaited series being shelved due to Yoo Ah-in’s controversy. Reflecting on the hard work behind the project, Kim Young-woong in a statement said, “If his ( Yoo Ah-in) wrongful actions are true, he deserves condemnation. There is no intention to defend or advocate. Naturally, there should be consequences. I’m just sorry that Goodbye Earth, which was about to be born through the efforts and sacrifices of so many people, might not see the light of day. As a humble actor living in the age of chaos, I ponder about which path to take.”
Directed by Kim Jin-min, Goodbye Earth revolves around the story of four individuals who fall under trying circumstances when an asteroid is said to collide with the Earth in 200 days, signifying a looming apocalypse. The drama series also stars Ahn Eun-jin, Barri Tsavaris and Jeon Sung-woo in important roles.
