After being sentenced to one year in prison for drug abuse, Yoo Ah-In’s sexual assault case has reportedly been closed.

Korean actor Yoo Ah-In, best known for his performances in Burning and Hellbound, faced allegations of sexually assaulting a 30-year-old man in July. Several reports by the Korean media stated that the Seoul Yongsan Police Station received a complaint against the actor on July 15. This fresh set of accusations came in while Yoo was already indicted for illegal drug abuse.

On Thursday, September 19, Soompi reported that Yoo Ah-In’s same-sex sexual assault case, which is considered “imitative rape” under Korean law, had been closed by the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul. They have decided not to transfer the case to prosecution on September 11 due to the lack of substantial evidence. It is also reported that the police aren’t going to reinvestigate the case.

For those who are unaware, the South Korean actor was accused of sexually assaulting a man who was sleeping in his home in Yongsan-gu. According to the police report, the victim, going by the alias of Mr A, was sleeping in his officetel (buildings in Korea where occupants live and work at the same time) from 6 am to 4 pm. Once he woke up, he realised he had been sexually assaulted. He filed a complaint the following day. Notably, the house was neither Yoo’s nor Mr A’s residence but that of a third party.

In August, the police summoned the actor for questioning and he denied all allegations. Bang Jung-hyun, Yoo’s legal representative, said, “We clarify that the allegations in the complaint are not true” and requested the public refrain from unnecessary speculation about Yoo’s private life.

In other news, Yoo An-In was sentenced to one year in prison for his habitual drug use on September 3. He was indicted in October 2023 for administering propofol 181 times from September 2020 to March 2022 and for illegally purchasing 1,100 sleeping pills under someone else’s name 44 times from May 2021 to August 2022. The 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court has imposed a fine of 2 million KRW, which is approximately $ 1,489.70, in the first trial on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, smoking marijuana, and attempting the destruction of evidence. Previously, the prosecution requested a four-year jail term, a fine of 2 million KRW 2,000,000, and an additional 1.5 million KRW.

On the work front, Yoo Ah-In has been part of popular K-dramas like Descendants Of The Sun and Hellbound. He was last seen in Goodbye Earth, released in April 2024.
