Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman have been reportedly roped in to compose background score and music for Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana.
A recent report has surfaced that reveals Hans Zimmer will be creating the background score for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana and AR Rahman will be composing the music.
Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming movie Ramayana finally went on floors on Tuesday, April 2. If a recent report by India Today is to be believed, director Nitesh Tiwari performed a puja on sets following which he began shooting for the film with secondary actors. The cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Yash as Ravana. While an official announcement is scheduled for April 17, 2024, coinciding with Ram Navami, a recent report suggests that the makers have roped in Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman for the project.
A source told the entertainment portal PinkVilla, “Hans Zimmer is gearing up to make his debut in the Indian Film Industry with Ramayana. Namit Malhotra and Nitesh Tiwari have always been vocal about their global vision for this Indian Epic and they are leaving no stone unturned to make that a reality. Hans Zimmer is also fascinated by the vision for the story of Lord Ram and is all ready to compose the score of Ramayana.”
The source emphasized that AR Rahman, the Indian legend, will be composing the music for Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus,”It’s a match made in heaven. Two global talents are set to team up to present India’s story to the world,” the source stated.
The source also added, “Interestingly, Hans Zimmer has expressed his desire to collaborate with AR Rahman previously, and the duo have always drawn inspiration from each other’s work.”
Regarding Hans Zimmer, known for iconic scores like The Lion King, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Man of Steel, Interstellar, Dunkirk and No Time to Die.
The film is a grand undertaking that aims to elevate Indian Cinema to international heights, with meticulous attention given to research, pre-visualization, and storytelling. Discussions are underway with Hollywood studios for an international release, although these plans are still in early stages. The source shared, “Ramayana is truly a global film and the makers are attempting to represent Indian Cinema at a global level with the epic. Years have been spent not just researching the subject but also pre-visualization of the world. Ramayana is a legacy film and the makers have embarked on a journey to bring it to the spectacle with all the responsibility. The talks are also on with a global studio from Hollywood to come on board for the International Release, but it’s all in a very nascent stage.”
Ramayana is currently in production and is poised to be one of the most expensive films in Indian Cinema history, envisioned as a trilogy. The first installment is set to be shot between April and July, with a star-studded cast preparing to bring this epic tale to life on the big screen by Diwali 2025.
