Google has also mandated that developers follow through with submitting information about their data collection practices for their apps by July 20, according to the post.
Apps need to disclose if they’re sharing user information with third party applications, among other disclosures. They also have to share security practices, encryption methods and whether users have the choice to have their data deleted.
Google would keep updating the Data Safety section, meaning there would be updates for users when the application developer makes changes to data handling and other functionalities.
Users want to know more about what an application does with their data, not just a context-less update on what data is collected by the applications, said the statement. “Users want to know for what purpose their data is being collected and whether the developer is sharing user data with third parties. In addition, users want to understand how app developers are securing user data after an app is downloaded,” read the post.
As early as May last year, Google had posted on its Android Developers blog that it was planning on rolling out a safety section for users to understand how their data is leveraged. It had announced alterations to some of the features in consecutive blog posts, and extended the deadline for developers to prepare for the compliance.
