Google CEO Sundar Pichai celebrates Diwali by watching rerun of India-Pakistan match; takes on troll with quick reply


India’s last-ball win over Pakistan in its T20 World Cup cricket encounter in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday left everyone, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, celebrating Diwali a day before.


Former Indian captain Virat Kohli led from the front to score a match-winning 82 runs off 53 balls.

Pichai is an avid cricket fan, made evident in the past with the appearances he made at matches as well as through his tweets.

Wishing everyone a happy Diwali, the Google chief executive said he celebrated by watching reruns of the last three overs of the nail-biting India-Pakistan clash, which India won on the last delivery of the game.

“I celebrated by watching the last three overs again today, what a game and performance #Diwali #TeamIndia #T20WC2022”, read Pichai’s tweet. The game was one to remember for a long time as it kept swinging from one team to another, particularly in the last three overs, before India sealed the deal.

Just like any other big sporting event, the India-Pakistan match was being discussed extensively on Twitter with opinions and hot takes flying around everywhere. Pichai’s tweet wasn’t spared either.

A reply to his tweet, from the account @Muhamma91436212 read “you should watch 1st three overs”, referring to the first three overs of the Indian innings, to which Pichai replied “Did that too:) what a spell from Bhuvi and Arshdeep”, referring to the first three overs of the match, where the Indian pace bowlers rattled the Pakistan top order.

Playing his maiden T20 world cup, young Arshdeep Singh picked up the wicket of Pakistan’s captain and in-form Babar Azam in the second over of the match. And, backed it up with another one n his next over.

Pichai ended up
‘ratioing’ the reply on his tweet and received applause from the Twitterati for replying to the troll.
