Good news for beneficiaries as Cabinet takes major decision: PM Ujjwala Yojana

On Friday, an official notification made the announcement that the targeted subsidy for PMUY beneficiaries had been approved.

Friday, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, presided over the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, which approved a targeted subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana customers. A subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg cylinder has been approved by the Centre for up to 12 annual refills. This will be given to PMUY beneficiaries, approximately 9.59 crore as of March 1, 2023.

The PMUY’s total expenditures for the years 2022 and 2023 have been estimated at Rs 6,100 crore. According to the official announcement, it will rise to Rs 7,680 crore in 2023 and 2024. The eligible beneficiaries receive the PMUY subsidy directly into their bank accounts.

The notification also stated that “Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies namely Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) have already provided this subsidy since 22nd May, 2022.”

Due to a variety of geopolitical factors, the cost of LPG has skyrocketed worldwide. Protecting PMUY beneficiaries from high LPG prices is crucial, the government stated in the announcement. The targeted subsidy is available to everyone who has received PMUY.

Customers of PMUY benefit from targeted support because it encourages them to continue using LPG. In order for PMUY consumers to completely switch to cleaner cooking fuel, it is essential to ensure that they continue to use and adopt LPG.

It stated that PMUY customers’ average LPG consumption has increased by 20%, rising from 3.01 refills in 2019-20 to 3.68 in 2021-22.
