For the Dough

Step 1: In a big thali or paraat, combine whole wheat flour, semolina, and a tablespoon of hot oil.

Step 2: For kneading the mixture into a stiff dough, slowly add water as per the requirement.

Step 3: Leave it for 10 minutes and then make 7 to 8 equal-sized balls.

Step 4: Now, with the help of a rolling pin roll each ball into thin circles.

Step 5: Gently form a cup from each roundel by making folds and filling it with the prepared stuffing.

Step 6: Gather all the edges of the dough and firmly enclose them to encase the filling. You can remove excess dough from the top and then taper the upper portion of the modak for a neat finish.

Fry the Modaks

Step 1: Heat oil in a deep kadhai for frying.

Step 2: Once the oil is hot, carefully add the modaks and fry them over medium heat until they turn crisp and golden brown.
