With three National Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards, she has firmly established herself as one of the finest actors in Hindi cinema. Her journey from a small town in Himachal Pradesh to the glitz and glamour of Bollywood and now, the Tamil film industry, is nothing short of inspiring.
Born into a humble Rajput family in Bhamla, Manali district, Kangana hails from a lineage of achievers. Her grandfather, Braham Chand Ranaut, served as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, and her great-grandfather, Sarju Singh Ranaut, was a member of the Legislative Assembly. Kangana’s upbringing was marked by the simplicity of life in their ancestral haveli in Bhamla, where she enjoyed the joys of a joint family.
Kangana’s father is a businessman, while her mother, a retired school teacher, nurtured her with values and education. In her family’s aspirations, a future as a doctor was envisioned for Kangana, but fate had different plans. At the age of 16, she made the bold decision to leave her parents’ home and embark on a journey to Delhi to chase her dreams.
In Delhi, Kangana joined the Elite Modelling Agency and the Asmita Theatre Group. Under the mentorship of renowned theatre director Arvind Gaur, she honed her acting skills and built a strong foundation in the performing arts. Determined to pursue a career in mainstream acting, Kangana eventually made her way to Mumbai.
It was in the city of dreams that Kangana’s talent and potential caught the eye of casting agents, leading her to audition for Anurag Basu’s “Gangster.” Despite initial casting decisions, Kangana, at the age of 19, seized the leading role that would mark her entry into Bollywood.
From that point forward, Kangana’s career trajectory soared. She showcased her versatility in films like Fashion, Woh Lamhe, Life In A… Metro, Manikarnika, and Shakalaka Boom Boom, among others.
