The partnership would also enable Flipkart to enter the audiobooks category through Pocket FM and tap into the latter’s user base of over 400 million.
“Audiobooks have gained great prominence during the pandemic. This [partnership] will help authors publish their work on our platform with the aid of audiobooks. Flipkart will assist the author in receiving the appropriate exposure,” said Kanchan Mishra, business head, FMCG, home and general merchandise, Flipkart.
According to research from Pocket FM, India currently ranks third in the world in the number of audiobook listeners, estimated at 25 million. The opportunity for audiobooks, stimulated by audio storytelling in Indian languages, is expected to double in the next couple of years.
With the launch of its audiobook platform in March this year, Pocket FM has already sold over 120,000 audiobooks every month.
“This partnership will only strengthen our efforts and help our publishers and authors community reach a wider audience,” said Ashu Behl, senior vice-president, content, Pocket FM.
