Flipkart Rejig: Adarsh Menon to take over Shopsy, Cleartrip, used phone business

Long-time Flipkart executive Adarsh Menon will take over Flipkart’s new business verticals such as the social commerce venture Shopsy, travel platform Cleartrip, and recommerce (used or refurbished phones) business, reveals an internal memo sent by Flipkart group chief executive officer (CEO) Kalyan Krishnamurthy and people who were briefed on the matter.

The changes in Menon’s role come as
Prakash Sikaria plans to leave Flipkart later this year to potentially start his own venture. Menon will also look after the engagement and loyalty business, which was under Sikaria as well.

According to sources, Sikaria is expected to leave Flipkart after the company’s flagship festive season sale event Big Billion Days concludes after Diwali. Krishnamurthy sent an internal email to senior leaders of the company on Thursday informing them about the development, a source told ET.

In an interaction with ET earlier this month, Sikaria, when asked about his potential exit, said, “As far as I know I am here.”

Menon is among the senior executives in Flipkart who joined the company in 2015 from

(). Over the years, he has been involved in various businesses, including private labels for electronics, and furniture, among others.

The changes come after Flipkart appointed Myntra executive Ayyappan R as CEO in October in what was the first significant restructuring in the travel business. Among Flipkart’s new business verticals, travel is one of the fastest growing, people aware of the matter said.

An email sent to Flipkart did not immediately elicit any response.

In an interview with ET on January 4, Krishnamurthy said the online retailer is focussing on scaling its newer business verticals such as Shopsy, grocery, travel, and healthcare, which will drive customer growth in the coming year.

ET reported on January 13 that Flipkart acquired Yaantra for $40 million to strengthen its recommerce business and improve after-sale offerings for its customers in the smartphones segment.
