Ferrari brake failure; over 23,000 cars could be recalled

Models dating back to 2005 have been recalled; 10,000 cars recalled last year too.

Ferrari North America has recalled 23,555 vehicles owing to a potential brake issue that could lead to a brake failure and result in an accident. A total of 19 models, dating back to 2005, including series production models like the FF, F8 Tributo and Portofino, and limited run models like the LaFerrari are a part of the recall.

The issue, according to Ferrari, is due to the brake fluid reservoir cap not functioning properly, which results in a vacuum forming inside the reservoir. This could result in a potential brake fluid leak leading to partial or complete loss of brakes.

Ferrari will start notifying its owners about the issue on September 24, 2022. To fix it, a service technician will change the brake fluid reservoir cap and update the vehicle’s low brake fluid warning message.

Since all Ferrari cars are built in Maranello, Italy, the brake issue is likely to affect both Left-Hand Drive and Right-Hand Drive models. Hence, the issue could also affect cars sold in India.

In October 2021, Ferrari had recalled almost 10,000 of its 458 and 488 models for the same issue.

Ferrari’s India portfolio currently consists of the Roma, F8 Tributo, F8 Spyder, Portofino M and SF90 Stradale. The Italian marque is set to debut the 296 GTB in India this month, and globally unveil its Purosangue SUV in September.
