Farah Khan said that when her father passed away, he only had Rs. 30 in his pocket, so she and Sajid Khan had to collect money for a funeral.
Farah Khan is one of the most celebrated choreographers in Bollywood. In addition to that, Farah has also delivered some blockbuster films as a director. Although Farah dons several hats today, she did not grow up being able to afford many. In a recent interview, she recalled how she had to collect money in order to be able to give her late father a proper funeral.
Talking to Maniesh Paul on his podcast, Farah said, “Hota kya tha ki papa ka koi kaam nahi tha, toh ghar chalaana hota tha. Yeh tabhi I was I think 18 or 19, aur paanch saal ke baad we were sent back (from where we used to live). Kyuki voh storeroom bhi jo tha na, mere mama aa rahe the Iran se wapas toh ab voh unko dena tha. Toh mummy became a paying guest because she started working as a housekeeper at Sea Rock Hotel. Pehli baar mummy kaam pe nikli thi.”
Farah continued, “Toh Sajid and me were sent back. Toh earning kuch thi nahi, toh mera jo ghar tha, you won’t believe it, it’s a very filmy scene. Everyday, the building people would come to play taash (cards). Unko ek jagah chahiye hoti thi aur sab jo baithte the, 6-7 log sab paanch paanch rupay ki kitty daalte the. Voh humko milti thi to use that place. Usse next day ka humara doodh ka ek packet aur thoda sa daal aata tha. It was a daily thing, agar koi nahi aaya toh next day there’s no ration.”
“Toh the day my dad died, in the morning there were only Rs. 30 in his pocket. Last taash kheli thi unhone toh voh Rs. 30 papa ki jeb main the. Usse unki daaru bhi aati thi. Toh then we had to collect money to give him a funeral because we only had Rs. 30,” Farah said.
Meanwhile, it the latest reports are to be believed, Farah Khan will next be seen as a judge on the popular dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
