China and Qatar return to the F1 calendar, while the addition of the Las Vegas GP makes it three races in the USA.
The calendar for the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship has been announced. The season will run from March 5 to November 26 and feature a record-breaking 24 races. The Las Vegas GP will be making its debut as the penultimate round, while China and Qatar return to the calendar as well.

Three races in the USA
Along with the Miami GP and US GP (held in Austin), Las Vegas earns a slot on the calendar. The race will be held on a Saturday night on a 6.12km long street circuit along the famous Las Vegas Strip.
This means a total of three races will be held in the USA, matching the record for the most races held in a country in a single season (USA in 1983 and Italy in 2020).
Commenting on the new calendar, F1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali said, “We are excited to announce the 2023 calendar with 24 races around the world. Formula 1 has unprecedented demand to host races and it is important we get the balance right for the entire sport.”
“We are very pleased with the strong momentum Formula 1 continues to experience and it is great news that we will be able to bring our passionate fans a mix of exciting new locations such as Las Vegas to the Championship with much loved venues across Europe, Asia and the Americas.”
China, Qatar return
The Qatar GP, which made its debut in 2021, isn’t part of the 2022 calendar, with the country focusing on hosting the FIFA World Cup this year. But the race returns next year with an October 8 slot.
The Chinese GP also returns after three-year hiatus due to COVID-19. Additionally, F1 has confirmed that the Monaco GP will continue to be a part of the F1 calendar until at least 2025.
Further changes see the Belgian GP moved to July-end as a back-to-back with Hungary, while the Dutch GP is now twinned with Italy after the summer break.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem added that the calendar was planned keeping in mind the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The new hypercar rules have seen a number of high profile manufacturers sign up for the World Endurance Championship (which the Le Mans race is a part of), including Ferrari, Porsche and BMW.
