Every decision we made was my responsibility; biggest failing was not being quick to improve: Twitter’s Jack Dorsey

New Delhi: Twitter founder and former chief executive officer Jack Dorsey in a series of tweets said that every decision made by the social media platform was ultimately his responsibility. And that his biggest failing was not being quick enough to learn and make changes to improve the microblogging site.

“I have tried taking a break from Twitter recently, but I must say: the company has always tried to do its best given the information it had…Every decision we made was ultimately my responsibility*. In the cases we were wrong or went too far, we admitted it and worked to correct.”
Elon Musk’s earlier tweets targeting Twitter’s head of law, policy, and trust, Vijaya Gadde, may have been an indirect reference to Dorsey’s remarks.

Musk
had criticised Gadde in a post citing Twitter’s decision in the run-up to the 2020 election to temporarily ban the sharing of links to a controversial New York Post article on President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden. The decision was “obviously incredibly inappropriate,” according to Musk.

Dorsey stated that he is opposed to banning accounts from the platform indefinitely unless they are engaged in unlawful activities.

” It’s also crazy and wrong that individuals or companies bear this responsibility. As I’ve said before, I don’t believe any permanent ban (with the exception of illegal activity) is right, or should be possible…,” Dorsey said in a tweet.

Without naming anyone, Dorsey’s post may have alluded to the former US President Donald Trump, who was banned from the platform last year following the violence on Capitol Hill.

A transparent system, both in policy and operations, is the right way to earn trust, he said.

“What matters is how the service works and acts, and how quickly it learns and improves. My biggest failing was that quickness part. I’m confident that part at least is being addressed, and will be fixed.
