Esha Deol urges filmmakers to ‘shoot calls’ to Hema Malini. She also reveals Dhamendra asked family for inputs on his look for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
2023 has proven to be a rather significant year for the Deols. Dharmendra grabbed attention with his performance in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Sunny Deol delivered a blockbuster with the record shattering Gadar 2, Rajveer Deol is all set to make his acting debut with Rajshri Productions’ Dono and Esha Deol’s maiden production venture Ek Duaa received a special mention in the non-feature film category at this year’s National Awards.
Much like everyone else in the family making the most of their acting careers, Esha now wants her mother to make a comeback too. The veteran actor and politician was last seen in Shimla Mirchi, which finally released in 2020, five years after its shoot was complete. Speaking to exclusively, Esha says, “I’ve been pushing my mother to make a comeback. I’ve been doing it forever! In fact, she too wants to do films again.”
She goes on to confide that her mom has been wanting to return to the screen since a while and has been even reading some scripts. “She’s looking at some good roles and scripts. She’s the kind of person who says that only if something very good comes her way will she step out and go back in front of the camera. If anyone has something good for my mom, they should shoot her a call,” shares Esha, who herself made a comeback last year with Ajay Devgn’s show Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness.
With so many actors in the family, are conversations at home a lot about work? “We do discuss work because ours is a creative family. It’s so nice for us all to belong to the same profession. There’s a lot of takeaway and a lot of stuff you can talk about,” she states.
Talking about how Dharmendra personally asked for everyone’s input before starting work on Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Esha adds, “Whenever my dad starts a new project, he’ll show us pictures from his look tests and costumes. He did the same for Taj: Divided By Blood and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He still has that child-like excitement. And that really peps us up. There’s a constant give and take between all of us.”
Last month, Esha took to social media to share a picture with her siblings – Sunny, Bobby Deol and Ahana Deol Vohra – from a special screening she hosted for Gadar 2. Reacting to the waves the picture created online, she tells us, “We function in a very simple way. We’re actors and we’re here to perform and talk about work. When you look at my social media, you’ll see a lot of individual images of me. I’m not the kind of person who even shows a glimpse of my daughters because I’m made like that. In fact, all of us are made like that.”
So, won’t fans be treated to more pictures of Deol fam-jams going forward? “We don’t feel the need to put out every picture. This picture coming out was also very organic. It just happened. People got so emotional looking at it and now they want more. But we’re very private as a family and we’ll keep it that way always,” asserts Esha.
