The women’s team meeting of the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam was held on Saturday at the head office of the movement
Tamil star Thalapathy Vijay and his People’s Movement often come to the aid of the needy and carry out charitable activities for the underprivileged. Thalapathy Vijay’s movement, called Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, has long been involved in philanthropy. From organising day meals and blood donation camps to presenting students with study materials, the movement has done it all. Given Vijay’s charitable and kind nature, a 74-year-old Tamil man named Vadivelu has requested help from him since he has been living in poverty for a while. The incident took place during the women’s team meeting of the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. It was held on Saturday at the head office of the movement in Panaiyur, Chennai. The Vijay Makkal Iyakkam organisers talked about recruiting more female cadres for the Iyakkam. They urged the current women wing leaders to increase the number of female participation from their local area. During the course of the meeting, Vadivelu – who had accompanied his wife – requested financial aid.
Vadivelu said that his family, comprising him, his wife and his son had incurred a lot of debt due to medical expenses; he added that whatever little income they had was being spent to pay the interest on the debt. He requested Vijay to help him clear his debts and support him in stabilising his livelihood.
The old man further said that he had tried to meet Thalapathy Vijay five times, twice at his residence and three times at the Panaiyur office; but all 5 times, he was told that Vijay was not present. Vijay’s movement has not given out any statement yet, as to whether the man will be given financial aid or not.
