Ducati teases Scrambler Urban Motard; launch soon

Ducati has teased the arrival of the new Scrambler Urban Motard in our market. This new version will join the existing line-up (Icon, Icon Dark, Nightshift and Desert Sled) of the 800cc Ducati Scrambler motorcycle.

• Gets beak-style front mudguard and graffiti-inspired graphics

Ducati India recently tweeted out an image that appears to be a silhouette of the new Scrambler Urban Motard with the words ‘coming soon’. The model in the image can be identified as the Scrambler Urban Motard due to the asymmetrically-mounted single instrument pod and the beak-style front mudguard. So, an India launch of the new Scrambler model is imminent, but Ducati is yet to announce the date. 

Unlike the Sport Pro, Dark Pro and Tribute Pro models of the Scrambler, which use a 1,100cc engine, the Urban Motard makes use of the smaller 803cc unit that’s found in the rest of the range. The engine is an L-twin, air-cooled unit that puts out 73hp at 8,250rpm and 66.2Nm at 5,750rpm in international markets. The power is transmitted through a 6-speed gearbox which features a slipper clutch. Expect the India-spec version to be very similar, if not identical, to the international bike in terms of specifications. 

In terms of design, the Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard features a dual-tone paint scheme in Star White Silk and Ducati GP ’19 Red. It features a beak-style, high front mudguard like the Ducati Hypermotard and graffiti-inspired graphics on the tank, as seen on the Hypermotard RVE we reviewed recently. Other things unique to the Urban Motard include a new flat seat and a lower-set aluminium handlebar.

Suspension duties on the Scrambler Urban Motard are handled by a 41mm Kayaba upside down fork at the front and a pre-load adjustable Kayaba monoshock at the rear. It runs on Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres, with the front being a 120/70 ZR17 and the rear being 180/55 ZR17. The Scrambler Urban Motard uses a 330mm front disc brake with a four-piston caliper and a 245mm rear disc with Bosch’s cornering ABS as standard.
