Disney+ Hotstar is one of the most popular OTT platforms in India. As of now, it offers all its content in one free tier and two paid tiers. There is Disney+ Hotstar VIP plan that costs ₹399 annually and offers access to content from within the country along with HD quality video and Dolby 5.1 audio.
The other is the Premium plan that costs ₹1,499 annually and offers access to all content along with 4K quality video, Dolby 5.1 audio, and the ability to stream content on two screens. Last month, we reported that Disney+ Hotstar was planning to upgrade its subscription by offering three plans instead of the existing two.
We had also reported that these changes are expected to come into effect on September 1. Now, the company has formally started notifying all its subscribers about this change. It has also updated its website to reflect the change.
As far as the paid tier is concerned, starting September 1, Disney+ Hotstar will be offering three paid subscription plans to its users. There is a Mobile plan that will cost ₹499 annually, the other is the Super plan that will cost ₹899 annually, the third is the Premium plan that costs ₹1,499 annually and will remain unchanged.
As far as the content is concerned, Disney+ Hotstar says that all subscribers who opt for any of these three subscription plans will get access to unlimited live sports, which includes Cricket, Pro Kabaddi League, ISL, Tennis grand slams, Premier League, F1 and more, latest Indian movie digital premieres, Hotstar Specials, and Star serials before TV and Disney+ Originals and popular Disney movies and kid’s shows in English and in select Indian languages.
As far as the existing subscription plans are concerned, Disney+ Hotstar on its support page wrote that the new subscriptions will come into effect when subscribers’ existing plans expire. “Post the expiry of your current Disney+Hotstar VIP plan, the new Mobile plan benefits will be applicable,” the company wrote.
Disney+ Hotstar Mobile plan
This ad-supported plan costs ₹499 annually. Users will be able to login into any one device at a time. It gives access to 720p video quality and stereo quality sound.
Disney+ Hotstar Super plan
This ad-supported plan costs ₹899 annually. Users will be able to login to any two devices at a time. It would give users access to 1080p video quality and Dolby 5.1 sound.
Disney+ Hotstar Super plan
This ad-free plan costs ₹1499 annually. Users can login to up to four devices at a time. It gives access to 4K video quality and Dolby 5.1 sound quality.
