Director and Cinematographer Ok.V. Anand Died.

Anand was on the helm of widespread films like ‘Kaappan’, ‘Ayan’ and ‘Ko’, amongst others.

Director and cinematographer Ok.V. Anand died early on Friday morning in Chennai following a cardiac arrest. He was 54.


Anand, who had began out as a photojournalist, joined cinematographer P.C. Sreeram as his assistant and labored on a number of movies with him. He made his debut as a cinematographer with the Malayalam movie Thenmavin Kombath starring Mohanlal, and went on to crank the digicam for movies in Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. His first movie gained him the National Film Award for Cinematography.

While he turned director in 2005 with the movie Kanaa Kanden, it was his 2009 movie Ayan, starring Suriya, which went on to develop into an enormous business success, and introduced him into the highlight as a director. Anand then went on to direct movies with actors like Suriya, Dhanush, and Vijay Sethupathi as leads.

As a cinematographer, Anand had final collaborated with director Shankar for the Rajinikanth-starrer Sivaji. Rajinikanth mentioned that he was shocked and saddened to find out about Anand’s loss of life, and prolonged his condolences to Anand’s household.

Anand had as soon as mentioned that cinematography and pictures had been extraordinarily near his coronary heart. In a past interview to The Hindu, he mentioned “Cinematography and photography is my thing. Direction is a temporary detour in my career.”

Several main actors took to Twitter to condole the loss of life of Anand. Dhanush who labored with Anand in Anegan tweeted: “A gentle kind honest man has passed away. A very sweet man full of life love and joy. K.v anand sir .. gone too soon sir. Too soon. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace k.v sir. (sic)”

Actor Rajinikanth mentioned that he was shocked and saddened to study concerning the loss of life of Ok.V. Anand. He prolonged his condolences to Mr Anand’s household.

Actor Mohanlal tweeted: “Gone from our sight, however by no means from our hearts. Ok.V. Anand sir you can be missed endlessly. Prayers for the departed soul. Pranams.’
