Actress Dimple Kapadia shares her experience of working with Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan on the set of Tenet.
Dimple Kapadia, a celebrated figure in Indian cinema, opened up about her experience working with renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan on the 2020 film Tenet. Known for his impressive body of work, including The Dark Knight Rises and Inception, Nolan has a deep appreciation for Indian culture, as evidenced by his collaborations and his involvement with the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF), dedicated to preserving India’s cinematic legacy.
In a conversation with Vogue India, Dimple recalled an incident that took place during her time on set. She described how, during a fitting session, Nolan complimented her earrings and requested that she leave them behind after filming. “I went for a fitting and I promptly took out my earrings and wore them. Christopher Nolan turned around and said, ‘Oh, they’re lovely. You can leave them behind after your shoot,’ and I did.”
Dimple also expressed gratitude toward Jeffrey Kurland, the film’s costume designer, praising his patience and creativity. “Jeffrey was really kind. He took all my nonsense and bullsh*t. He struggled with me, poor guy. But, what a look he created for me in the movie. It was absolutely beautiful!”
Tenet features a stellar cast, including John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh. The film is a complex science fiction thriller centered around a former CIA agent who is drawn into a secret organisation tasked with deciphering a temporal mystery that threatens the world.
