Demand for cloud driving Indian brands: SAP


About 13% of its global clients are now from India, a senior SAP executive said, due to an increase in demand for cloud solutions, especially from mid-market segments, as well as customer and employee engagement solutions from enterprises.


Demand for employee experience management solutions has risen as companies battle attrition while balancing work-from-home requirements, Kulmeet Bawa, SAP Indian subcontinent president and managing director, told ET.

“India is definitely contributing and is one of the frontrunners within SAP within the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region,” said Bawa. “I think we’ve got about 13% of the contribution of all logos worldwide.”

Brands worldwide are coming out of India, which was unheard of earlier, he said.

“The pace at which India is adopting cloud is consistent with triple-digit growth, quarter on quarter, that we are seeing in India, which is humongous from the overall scheme of things,” Bawa added.

As of the April-June quarter, SAP Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) grew cloud revenue to 389 million euros, an increase of 31% over the same period in 2021.

Japan and India, in particular, showed strong cloud revenue momentum, the company said during its second quarter results.

Total APJ revenue in the quarter grew to 1.112 billion euros, up 8% over the same period last year.

Bawa said the demand was consistent across all industries like Consumer Packaged Goods, manufacturing, and commerce.

A large chunk of the current demand cycle is also driven by the mid-market segment of digitally native startups.

“Large enterprises are continuing to pump in the money in digital transformation. We haven’t seen any slowdown; they’re now going deeper. Large enterprises are also seeking to solve for the human experience. Almost 45% customers in the mid-market segment are net new customers that we have never served before,” he said.

A large percentage of the demand that the German enterprise software maker currently sees is from enterprise needs for a 360-degree view of customers and employees alike.

SAP SuccessFactors, a cloud-native Human Experience Management (HXM) suite, spans core HR and payroll, talent management, HR analytics and workforce planning, and employee experience management.

“We see huge momentum in mid-size companies, startups and unicorns, too, that are looking at their workforce as strategically as their customers, and are partnering with SAP in transforming themselves to a workplace of the future,” Bawa added.

Enterprises such as

, , IGT, Bajaj Allianz, and RPG Enterprises are some of the clients using these solutions.

“In the last six-nine months, I’m seeing a huge upsurge in the demand from specially the large organisations with a large talent pool. They first want to set, what we call, the employee central, the core of the employees. And then they are covering talent acquisition to onboarding, to retention to the entire experience,” he added.
