The fan association has also cautioned AMMA about potential serious consequences if their concern is not addressed by them.
A fan association dedicated to the late Tamil icon Sivaji Ganesan has raised objections to the upcoming Malayalam film’s title, Nadikar Thilakam, which also features popular actor Tovino Thomas. The Sivaji Samuga Nala Peravali association is spearheading the protest and has penned a letter to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), urging them to request the film’s team to change the title.
In a detailed letter, the president of Sivaji Samuga Nala Peravai expressed deep concerns about the use of the title Nadikar Thilakam, emphasizing that it holds a profound significance in Tamil cinema. He stated, “The Title of Nadikar Thilakam is the epithet given by the fans to Sivaji Ganesan, the late penitent son of the Art world who was a beacon of Tamil Cinema.”
K Chandrasekaran, the president, further conveyed that using the name Nadikar Thilakam as the title of a Malayalam film is not only painful and shocking for Sivaji Ganesan’s fans in Tamil Nadu but also for Tamilians worldwide who hold deep affection for the legendary actor.
The fan association believes that the title of a comedy film appears to be a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of an iconic hero they deeply admire.
It’s important to note that Nadikar Thilakam is an honorary title that has been synonymous with Sivaji Ganesan in the Indian film industry for decades, signifying him as the greatest of all actors.
The fan association has also cautioned AMMA about the potential serious consequences if their concerns are not addressed. Chandrasekaran emphasized the longstanding close ties between the Tamil and Malayalam film industries and expressed a desire for their relationship not to sour.
The film is directed by Lal Jr. It has been backed by Naveen Yerneni, Y Ravi Shankar, Allan Antony and Anoop Venugopal under the banners of Mythri Movie Makers and Godspeed, respectively. With Tovino in the lead, the film also boasts an ensemble star cast including Lal, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Sreenath Bhasi, Shine Tom Chacko, Suresh Krishna, Aju Varghese, Veena Nandakumar and Anoop Menon in pivotal roles. The film is aiming to have a 2024 release.
