Kim Byung Man and his ex-wife initially kept their dating lives private and eventually tied the knot in 2011.
Popular South Korean comedian, Kim Byung Man has officially announced his divorce after 12 years of marriage. The news was confirmed by his agency, Sky Turtle, on November 22. The couple had reportedly been living separately for a significant period before finalising their divorce lawsuit several months ago. Kim Byung Man and his ex-wife, who was seven years older than him, initially kept their dating lives private and eventually tied the knot in 2011. His agency told YTN, “Although they went through the lawsuit, they have ended it well and remain supportive of each other.”
After the news gained attention, Kim Byung Man addressed various speculations about his divorce in an interview with SPOTV News. He expressed frustration, mentioning the difficulty he faced after his mother’s passing last May, leading to a decrease in his TV appearances. Kim Byung Man revealed, “The reason I reduced my appearances on TV shows was also because it was difficult for me to stand on stage. I couldn’t talk about it in detail, so I couldn’t participate in variety shows either. It doesn’t make sense for someone whose profession is a broadcaster to say they dislike entertaining and chatting on TV.”
He further added that with various thoughts in his mind, he decided to step away from the main comedy scene. Currently, Kim Byung Man is running an amusement park in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, filled with wooden handicrafts and play equipment that he carved and made.
Mentioning this venture of his in a conversation with SPOTV News, he said, “When I cut a tree, I lose track of time. I tend to think a lot, but when I cut a tree, I feel like a lot of my worries disappear. I stayed in the mountains of Yangju for three years. I like trees and the ground, so I looked for those things. I want to create a children’s forest in the future.”
While the specifics surrounding the divorce remain private, fans of the comedian have been guessing what might have gone wrong with the couple.
On his professional front, Kim Byung Man, widely recognised for his comedic prowess and charismatic presence in the entertainment industry, continues to engage in the public eye. He recently participated in the variety show ‘Out Now! Captain Kim’, which aired from July 15 to September 16 of this year.
