CoinDCX elevates Vivek Gupta, head of engineering, as CTO

Crypto trading platform CoinDCX on Thursday said it was elevating Vivek Gupta, former executive vice-president and head of engineering, to the role of chief technology officer (CTO).

“In his new role, Vivek will be responsible for enhancing and simplifying the user journey and product experience for CoinDCX’s 15-million-strong customer base, while also laying the foundation for onboarding new users,” the company said.

Gupta will lead a 190-member team across engineering, data science and infrastructure, among others.

He will spearhead innovations and capability-building efforts to further simplify the user experience through a secure and reliable platform and value-driven web3 solutions, CoinDCX said.

Gupta joined CoinDCX in June 2020, and has worked with companies, including Instamojo and Vistaprint in the past.

Neeraj Khandelwal, co-founder, CoinDCX, said: “Vivek’s promotion is a testament to his dedication, hard work and excellence. As the company ushers in the next phase of growth, Vivek’s proven track record of enhancing user experiences will fortify the company’s technical architecture and help us reimagine the internet.”

The crypto platform, which is funded by Coinbase Ventures and Bain Capital, among other investors, said Gupta was the “driving force behind the technology” for CoinDCX’s DeFi initiative, Okto, a self-custody wallet.“In my new role, I am excited for the opportunity to lead CoinDCX’s technological initiatives and together with the team shape the future of web3,” Gupta said.

CoinDCX last year diversified into decentralised finance to establish a broader footprint in the global web3 space. In August, it announced Okto – a keyless self-custodial wallet that allows users access to over 100 decentralised apps.

“Okto has witnessed a great response. We have a waitlist of 100,000 users. The Beta app will be shortly released for Indian users first,” Gupta had told ET in November.

The company also said that it had recently appointed Rajnish Vedi as the head of customer experience, Sridhar Govardhan as the head of information security and Amit Gala as the head of finance, as part of the expansion strategy.
