While it has been a decade since Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi masterpiece Interstellar opened in cinema halls, the film is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. On this occasion, the makers are all set to rerelease the film in theatres across Imax screens on December 6. As per the announcement, Imax will showcase the film in both 70mm and digital formats for a limited one-week run in select cities across states such as New York, California, Texas, Arizona, Indiana, and Florida.

It was previously slated to hit screens in September this year, but the decision was delayed to align with the home entertainment relaunch, stated a Variety report. “It’s been 10 years since #Interstellar released in IMAX. How much time has passed on Miller’s Planet? Experience Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece back in theatres exclusively in IMAX on Dec 6. 70mm shows on sale now!” Imax wrote on Instagram.

Interstellar, which originally premiered on November 5, 2014, grossed around $730 million globally, further earning five Academy Award nominations, and winning Best Visual Effects. Actors like Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Timothée Chalamet, Ellen Burstyn, Bill Irwin, Wes Bentley, David Oyelowo, and Casey Affleck play key roles in the film.

Speaking about its plotline, it revolves around a fictional black hole called Gargantua, where Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway’s characters travel through a tunnel—that allows for nearly instantaneous travel between far-distant points—to explore three planets that orbit Gargantua. However, they end up entering a supermassive black hole and discover a fifth dimension, inter-dimensional omniscient beings, and the ability to communicate with his estranged daughter across time and space. “When Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future, a farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper, is tasked to pilot a spacecraft, along with a team of researchers, to find a new planet for humans,” the film’s synopsis reads.

Said to be Nolan’s fifth highest-grossing film, Interstellar recently started streaming on Peacock and made its way into the top 10, states Collider. It is worth mentioning that Christopher Nolan has closely worked with Imax, using 65mm and 70mm cameras for his Dark Knight films and Dunkirk.
