Celebrating Diwali with Care: Eye Safety First –

Taking precautions throughout the Diwali season might safeguard your eyes and those of your loved ones.

While Diwali is a time to celebrate, it is essential to prioritize safety, particularly when it comes to our eyes

During the Diwali festivities, it is critical to remember that a lack of caution when enjoying fireworks might endanger your health, particularly your eyes. This necessitates an understanding of the dangers involved with the irresponsible use of celebratory objects such as firecrackers and laser guns. Taking precautions throughout the Diwali season might safeguard your eyes and those of your loved ones. Dr Rishi Raj Borah, Country Director, India Orbis encourages all of us to be careful while celebrating Diwali:

  1. Irresponsible Use of Laser Guns is a ConcernThese handheld devices emit intense beams of light that can be harmful to the eyes. Momentary exposure to these lasers can cause temporary blindness, also known as flash blindness, that can even lead to an accident. Laser beams can also cause permanent damage to the retina, the inner membrane lining the back of the eyeball, which is essential for vision.
  2. Firecrackers: A Tradition with RisksDiwali and firecrackers have been inseparable for centuries. While they bring immense joy to many, they might also cause damage to the eyes.
  3. BurnsFirecrackers can cause severe burns, especially when they malfunction or are handled incorrectly. These injuries can lead to permanent scarring and vision impairment.
  4. Chemical ExposureThe smoke and debris from firecrackers can irritate the eyes and even lead to chemical injuries, affecting the cornea and causing pain, redness and blurred vision.
